What tax systems does BilluApp support?
BilluApp handles multiple tax systems automatically. For US businesses, it calculates Sales Tax. For Indian businesses, it supports GST with automatic CGST/SGST breakdown and HSN/SAC codes. For global users, set any custom tax rate. Just select your country and the right tax fields appear.
Do I need a tax ID to create invoices?
No. Tax ID fields (EIN for US, GSTIN for India) are optional. You can create professional invoices whether or not you have a tax registration. If you do have one, simply add it to your invoice for compliance.
How are taxes calculated?
Set your tax rate and BilluApp calculates everything automatically. For US Sales Tax, enter your state rate (e.g., 6.25% for Texas). For Indian GST, it automatically splits into CGST and SGST. The subtotal, tax amount, and total update in real-time as you add items.

For example, say "40 hours of web development at $75/hour" and it creates the invoice for you. It even supports voice input.
Can I download invoices as PDF?
Yes! Click "Download PDF" to instantly download your invoice as a professional PDF file. Email it to clients or print it for your records.
How does the phone camera invoice scanner work?
Tap "Scan Note" on the invoice page, then use your phone camera to scan or upload a photo of a supply note, delivery challan, or order list. BilluApp's AI-powered OCR reads the note and extracts every line item — description, quantity, and unit — directly into your invoice. You review and edit the items before they are added, then set prices in the invoice form. Free plan users get 2 scans per month; Starter 50/month; Growth 99/month. Limits reset on the 1st of each month.
What languages does the invoice note scanner support?
The scanner reads English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. It is particularly useful for trades, food supply businesses, construction, and retail where handwritten challan and supply notes are common. Mixed-language notes (e.g. English quantities with Hindi item names) are handled gracefully. For best results, make sure the image is well-lit and the handwriting is reasonably clear.
